    Daylesford Farm shop, Daylesford

    An award-winning, organic farm shop situated near Kingham. It was founded in 2002 by Carole Bamford with a simple passion for real food. Vegetables, fruit, and herbs are picked each morning from the market garden and travel just a few yards into the shop. There you can also find organic meat, bread from the bakery and cheese, milk and yogurt from the creamery.

    Cotswold Sweet Company, Stow-on-the-Wold

    Cotswold Sweet Company began selling sweets in this historic Cotswold town and before long they were making their own fudge and confectionary. They are a small family business making their chocolates and sweets ready for you to try. Pop in to the shop to see hundreds of old favourites lined up in glass jars.

    Haynes Hanson & Clark, Stow-on-the-Wold

    A thriving independent wine merchant founded in 1978 with stores in Chelsea, Hampshire and Stow-on-the-Wold. Their promise is to provide interesting, hand-picked wines and efficient, personal service. Their Burgandy selection is extremely important to them, offering wines that they know offer brilliant quality.

    The Cotswold Cheese Company, Moreton-in-Marsh

    Opened in 2006, the first Cotswold Cheese Company shop proved so popular that further stores  were opened in Burford and Stow-in-the-Wold. The stores stock more that 80 different artisan and farmhouse cheeses. Their focus is on local quality producers, British territorial cheese and high quality French, Spanish & Italian cheese.

    Upton Smokery, Burford

    Located just outside of Burford, Upton Smokery is a family businesses that specialises in smoked meat, game and fish of the highest quality. They also stock fresh game, pate, potted terrines and charcuterie and olives.

    Cotswold Distillery, Stourton

    Situated in an Area of Outstanding Beauty and set in five acres of beautiful Cotswolds countryside, this state-of-the-art distillery mirrors the beauty of arisinal spirits. They even grow their own botanicals to be incorporated into their gin recipes. They offer exclusive tours and tasting sessions daily.

    Big Feastival, Kingham

    This food orientated festival on Alex James’ farm is one not to miss. As well as music,  find a cohort of culinary kings and queens ready to teach festival-goers their favourite tricks and secret recipes. As you explore, make sure to visit the cookery school to get some hands-on experience.

  • Walk information

    Two very different walks in the Cotswolds countryside that start from Charlbury's old town centre.

    Route 1 takes in the only Public Right of Way through the ancient Wychwood Forest within Cornbury Park as well as passing through the pretty village of Chilson and taking in some wonderful views of the Cotswold countryside.
    Route 2 runs to the north-west of Charlbury, following the pretty Evenlode valley and uses a section of the Oxfordshire Way.

    The railway station at Charlbury, built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, is now a listed building.

    Cycling

    Not too hill and not too flat, the Cotswolds is perfect for cyclists, with bridleways and quiet country lanes galore. There are a number of companies offering guided or self-guided cycling tours and holidays and if you prefer to do your own thing there are a number of downloadable cycle rides or just buy a map and plan your own route:

    Blenheim Palace, Woodstock

    Blenheim Palace is Britain’s Greatest Palace, built in the 18th Century for the Churchill family. Explore the stunning gardens, park, and of course, the palace itself to learn about its amazing history. With beautiful walks, a giant maze, and even its very own train to guide you around, this is a definite must see.

    Bourton House Garden, Bourton on the Hill

    Bourton House Garden is an award-winning three-acre garden surrounding a fine 18th century Manor House. The garden features luxuriant terraces and wide herbaceous borders with stunning plant, texture and colour combinations making it a destination that is beautiful to visit all year round.

    Batsford Arboretum, Moreton-in-Marsh

    Batsford Arboretum is home to the countries largest private collection of trees and shrubs over 56 acres. An intimate and romantic place to visit, with interest all year round from the first snowdrops of spring, right through to the outstanding autumn colour in October and November.

    Cotswold Wildlife Park, Burford

    The Cotswold Wildlife Park is one of the UK’s largest zoological collections. Set in over 160 acres of breath-taking gardens and parklands it offers an amazingly diverse collection of species, many of which are endangered in the wild.

    Far Peak Climbing, Northleach

    Far Peak Climbing Centre is a superb dedicated climbing facility. It offers indoor climbing and bouldering for all ages and abilities and outdoor climbing on a 15m tower.

  • Burford – The beautiful old market town of Burford is only a short 6 miles from The Swan Inn. Full of wonderful side streets to explore, old pubs, tea rooms and antique shops, it is a very popular destination for visitors to the Cotswolds and is home to the wonderful Burford Garden Centre.

    Oxford – 24 miles away and easily accessible from Ascott or Charlbury train station, “The City of Spires” is one of the UK’s oldest and most famous cities. Full of beautiful architecture from every major period from the 11th century onwards the city has inspired countless artists and writers over its centuries.

    Stratford-upon-Avon – Stratford-upon-Avon is an incredibly famous town known for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Located only 28 miles from Ascott, the market town offers over 800 years of history, beautiful riverside buildings and the Royal Shakespeare Company theatres which offer high quality shows for all to enjoy.

    Cheltenham – The cultural centre of the Cotswolds is situated a 28 mile drive from The Swan Inn. Cheltenham is full of stylish places to eat, drink and be entertained and maintains much of its original 18th and 19th culture in regency, architectural and heritage features. A buzzing and eventful town where old meets new.
